Network Rail Case Study
Due to their experience and knowledge on Acquisitions and Joint Ventures, Vizone were asked by Network Rail to supply Asset Management, technical and IS advice in support of their acquisition of Railtrack PLC. Specifically created in 2002 to acquire Railtrack and provide a single safe and efficient rail infrastructure, Network Rail run, maintain and develop Britain’s tracks, signalling system, rail bridges, tunnels, level crossings, viaducts and 18 key stations. Reporting directly to the CEO of Network Rail, Vizone developed plans to transform business performance which included:
- Appointment of the Information Management Partner, in-sourcing Information Management Director and up to 30 of their 'best people', for 5 years to deliver the Information Plan.
- Procurement and development of the Network Availability Model to illustrate availability of the Network in relation to Capability and Demand. The tool will produce ' what if' scenario modelling as input into Work Management planning.
- Production of the Technical Plan for the whole of the new business including Asset Management strategy, knowledge requirements and work delivery framework.
- Programme Management of a team to produce the Information Plan and to provide quality information to the appropriate decision-makers within the Rail industry, covering Safety, Asset Stewardship, System-wide Performance, System-wide Capability and Financial Control.
- Formulation of the Action Plans to ensure the timely delivery of quality asset information supporting Asset Stewardship.

Reference
"Vizone were a critical part in the small team that successfully acquired Railtrack, developing the strategy and action plans for the new organisation including the procurement of information management partner. I would have no hesitation in using Vizone again, or recommending them to others, as they can be relied upon to deliver quality and timeliness in a demanding acquisition environment."
