Vodafone / Orange Case Study

Vizone has a long history of working with Vodafone, first being appointed to work on the company’s Voice Over Protocol (VOP) Project.  The success of this project encouraged Vodafone to recommend Vizone to one of its competitors, Orange, for the implementation of the two company’s SharedRan Joint Venture.

Launched in April 1994, Orange is one of the world’s leading communications companies.  The Group serves more than 170 million customers in five continents, of which two thirds are Orange mobile customers (109.6 million).  It is Europe's largest broadband provider with 11.6 million broadband internet (ADSL) customers, and is Britain’s No1 VOIP provider with more than 150,000 users.  Orange Business Services is present in 166 countries with network reach in 220 countries and territories.  It serves one million businesses with mobile solutions.

SharedRAN Joint Venture
In 2007 Vodafone and Orange committed to share appropriate operational sites and reduce operating, rental and upgrading costs.  They jointly required the introduction of the asset owner, manager and operator model to these shared assets via a joint venture incorporating 1,500 operational staff.

Vizone were asked to review the programme, recommend recovery actions and provide the consultancy team to define and plan the business transformation.  Reporting directly to the Legal Director of Vodafone and the Legal Director of Orange, Vizone completed the SharedRAN programme Healthcheck in November 2007.

The SharedRAN Sponsors were impressed with the Healthcheck findings and asked Vizone to manage the recommended recovery activities; these were successfully completed in January 2008 after a professional handover to the Programme team.  Quantum and value are confidential.
