Thames Water Case Study
Thames Water is the UK's largest water and wastewater services company. Every day they supply 2,600 million litres of tap water to 8.5 million customers across London and the Thames Valley and remove and treat 2,800 million litres of sewage for an area covering 13.5 million customers.
The Thames Water Board decided in early 2008 that they wanted to restructure their organization and introduce the Asset Owner, Service Provider model (AOSP). After performing a business programme Healthcheck, Vizone were asked to lead the Thames Water AOSP programme that introduced asset management to the whole of Thames Water as well as assuring the delivery of SAP across the whole organisation and the creation of a pan organisation "Transforming Thames" change programme to meet challenging business improvement targets.
The AOSP programme included the organisational design and roles definition from executive management team down to operation plus the design and delivery of the" lift and shift" transition programme to implement changes to people, organisation, systems and processes. Vizone took over the programme from an incumbent consultancy and established governance, teaming and sponsorship to create a do-able plan that ensured programme stabilisation. To ensure continuation of the programme Vizone also provided the interim Asset Management Director capability during the recruitment period for permanent Asset Management Director. Vizone worked closely with the incoming Asset Management Director in advance of him joining Thames Water to effect a successful and efficient hand over upon his role commencement.
Vizone were also engaged by the CEO of Thames Water to support them in the establishment and management of the Transforming Thames business change programme. This involved the provisioning of PMO and Assurance services to support the programme, defining, mobilising and implementing Phase 1 of the Asset Owner Service Provider Model for the Thames Water Asset Director and providing independent assurance services to the SAP Programme through Mobilisation and Blueprint.
