Scottish Widows

Scottish Widows Case Study

Vizone were employed by Scottish Widows to implement an ALIS Policy Administration Solution to support the underwriting of the Virgin Money range of protection covers.  The new protection proposition offered customers a range of affordable, simple to understand protection covers directly through the internet.

Scottish Widows was founded in 1815 in Edinburgh as Scotland's first mutual life office. They were demutualised and became part of the Lloyds Banking Group on the 3rd March 2000 and currently have one of the most recognised brands in the UK life, pensions and investments industry.  Scottish Widows employs around 4,000 people and their Investment Partnership manages £92.5 billion of client funds.

At the end of 2005 Virgin Money launched a range of protection covers administered and underwritten by Scottish Widows, part of the Lloyds TSB Marketing Group and one of the most recognised providers in the Life & Pensions industry in the UK.

This innovative new proposition required a modern IT administration platform that could be deployed within months, learned and used within weeks and which would support the delivery of the product proposition.  The platform needed to be flexible and easy to use, and capable of integrating with best of breed solutions for e-commerce, Customer Relationship Management and underwriting, in addition to being a strategic solution for future product development.  The platform provider had to demonstrate commitment, ability and enthusiasm for working with Scottish Widows and with their Systems Integrators, IBM.

Following an evaluation of several vendors, FIS Software was selected as the software provider to work with IBM and Scottish Widows to provide implementation services to the programme of their software solution.  FIS were chosen for their track record of delivery demonstrated on a previous Protection implementation for AXA in the UK and for the strong functional capability of their software solution ALIS. Working with the systems integration team from IBM, FIS implemented ALIS within 9 months enabling the launch of the exciting Virgin Money proposition and providing the platform for Scottish Widows to innovate further Life & Pension products.

Building on the success of the ALIS implementation into AXA the same delivery management team of Ricky Reeves and Paul Evans were deployed; this ensured another implementation on time and budget which exceeded customer expectations.
